This is a highly valuable program that sends people all around teh world to work with scientists in the field. There is a special expedition section design for people ages 16 - 17. There are also opportunities for families to go on expeditions together. Teen applications is extensive and qould require a recommendation.
COSMOS is a four-week residential program for talented and motivated students completing grades eight through twelve. Students work side-by-side with outstanding university researchers and faculty exploring advanced topics that extend beyond the typical high school curriculum. COSMOS courses are hands-on and lab intensive emphasizing current research underway at the University of California.
The Bioscience Program at the University of Utah seeks to increase the participation of students in biological research and to encourage them to prepare for careers in research, medicine, and education. To this end the Program sponsors an eight-week Bioscience High School Summer Research Program through which students receive training and research experience in a university setting.
Applications for Summer 2012 will be accepted from December 15, 2011 to February 15, 2012. These highly competitive, prestigious scholarships are designed to expose highly qualified students to several disci- plines within cardiovascular medicine. Each scholar will be supported by a named research scholarship. The major focus will be intensive basic or clinical research as each scholar will be assigned a laboratory and a faculty mentor. In addition, scholars will be introduced to clinical, indus- trial, and academic medicine through a variety of field trips, seminars and hands on experiences. Weekly semi- nars by faculty and industry leaders will be given to offer the scholar a window into career options in cardiovascular science and medicine. The goal of these scholarships is to encourage medical and scientific careers in Cardiovascular Medicine.
The High School Honors Program provides an opportunity for academically motivated rising high school juniors and seniors to experience undergraduate life, both academically and socially, while earning college credit.
Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES) is a rigorous academic enrichment program for promising high school juniors interested in studying and exploring careers in science, engineering, and entrepreneurship. During six weeks in the summer before their senior year, participants tackle advanced academic challenges, develop the skills necessary to achieve success in an increasingly globalized economy, and forge relationships with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The program is scholarship-based, with students paying only for transportation to and from MIT.
Each summer, 80 of the world's most accomplished high school students gather at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the Research Science Institute (RSI). Invited students enjoy a six-week, cost-free program designed to kick-start their careers of leadership in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology.
The MIT Women's Technology Program (WTP) is a rigorous four-week summer academic and residential experience where female high school students explore engineering through hands-on classes, labs, and team-based projects in the summer after 11th grade .
The Summer Science Program (SSP) is a residential enrichment program in which gifted high school students complete a challenging, hands-on research project in celestial mechanics.
